The project aims at the modernization of the air traffic management in line with the Single European Sky framework
On the 17th of October 2023 CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency) and ENAV signed the grant agreement for “ENAV Navigation And Surveillance InfRastructure Evolution” (NASIRE) project.
The NASIRE project objectives are the deployment of PBN (Performance Based-Navigation) SIDs/STARs (Standard Instrument Departure/Arrival Routes), integration of enhanced surveillance technologies based on ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) and rationalisation of the navigation and surveillance ground infrastructures in Italy.
One of the main goals of NASIRE is to implement the PBN instrument flight procedures for departure and arrival at 9 Italian airports in accordance with the provisions of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/1048 (PBN Regulation). The new PBN procedures enable the increasing of efficiency, capacity as well as the optimisation of environmental footprint.
An additional purpose of the ENAV’s project includes the activities required to ensure the completion of the ADS-B infrastructure. The deployment of the ADS-B network in Italy will improve surveillance services enhancing the safety level of the operations.
Furthermore, the project includes the optimisation and rationalisation of navigation and surveillance ground infrastructures, such as the decommissioning of a certain number of VOR (Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range) stations for navigation and of En-route Primary Radars (PSRs) for surveillance.
NASIRE’s activities started in January 2023 and will be completed by December 2027. The project will contribute to the European Green Deal objectives of reducing the overall carbon footprint.
NASIRE project was awarded under “Connecting Europe Facility” (CEF) Programme and “CEF 2 Transport - Actions related to smart and interoperable mobility – General envelope” Call, launched by European Commission – CINEA and it is co-funded by the European Union.
